When designing an intruder alarm systems some basic information needs to be gathered. Apart from the specialist regulations (BS 4737 has been withdrawn) of BS EN 50131, PD6662, DD243 etc, BS 7671 and Part P is still relevant for cable sizing, methods of fixing recording voltages etc. But lets start with some basics 1, Domestic Installations Probably one of the most common systems. This would usually be a Grade 1 or 2x (both audible only). A risk assessment must be carried out and this will decide grade. Also the insurance company may have some input on a minimum grade they will accept. Look for things like easy access points, flat roofs, weak doors etc. These area…

I am currently using standard 2 wire (common tamper) and have linked the unused zones which seems to be working but the engineer manaul says 9(eol) wiring is more secure, I am thinking of changing it to use eol wiring(I am using eurosec PIR without fault or mask terminal), if I do this then it would leave me 2 unused zones plus unused tamper(which becomes 9th zone), do I need to link them as before or do I need to link them using some 4k7 resistors as the other zones? also in the engineer manual it says you should select 9(eol) in the wiring option(page 23 of manual) and then normal (standard gardtec wiring configuration without mask or fault detection) but then it says i…

  4. Hi. I have random high resistances in most zones of a Honeywell Galaxy Dimension. I would like to replace my panel with a new one, but I've been told these panels are incompatible with detectors that have solid state relays (and I have several of these). Can anyone confirm this information? Thanks.

Hello, I am planning on getting a new intruder alamr panel. My accenta g4 is not as reliable as you may think. With the dan thing making a buzzing noise thru the speakers, display going funny, LEDs flickering and as many other faults you could think of! I am planning on buying a scantronic 9448 control panel (the control box with 1 RKP). I have 5 current intruder ones (1 panic), 1 fire and one spare. Is it possible to have a fire alarm zone on this unit? And once I fit it, will I need an engineer code? Im presuming it starts with 7 and ends in 0. I wont put the whole code on here to save any problems. I also would like to know if it is programmed with …

Hi, I have a Castle care-tech euro mini and need to add another PIR to a FSL zone which already has a PIR. i.e. I need to wire two PIR's in series. Unfortunately the manual does not give any details how to do this and I have not found any helpful information on the net either. I would be most grateful if someone can point me in the right direction to achieve this. Thanks in advance. Mel.

  11. Hi all, purchased this from security warehouse last year and just got round to installing it. I have wired up all sensors - 3 Pir`s and 1 door contact. I have an 16ohm external speaker connected to the system I have 1 Keypad connected to the system. 1 have one Lan card connected. I turned it on for the first time and i hear a time which confirms it has been turned on. I expect the keypad to light up but there is nothing from the keypad. The keypad does not light up. I have read if i hold down the D key it allows you to select the address and there is no response from either the one supplied with the system or the flush keypad i purchase addition…

Hi, I have just received 5 x Pet Detectors PIR's (Texecom Prestige). Why don't they have brackets? The Prestige DT PIR's that I ordered a while ago from elsewhere came with brackets, so I assumed these would. Even the blurb on the box's suggests that they include brackets, although a sticker has also been placed on each box to say that they are available separately? I appreciate that some might not recommend brackets for installs, but for this particular job I wanted them... Any ideas..... Thanks, Chris

  13. Well, the Honeywell ADE Informa speech dialler I bought is to replace the current AD2000 speech dialler that is not working any longer. The speech dialler is to be connected to an Ademco 4204 relais module (with 4 relais) which in turn is getting its pulses from a Honeywell Vista 50P alarm system. So, basically, when there is an alarm in one of the 3 partitions I have in the alarm system (the Vista 50P), this triggers one of the relais in the Ademco 4204 which in turn triggers the speech dialler which then calls the phone of the home owner. The problem is that the current AD2000 speech dialler is connected to the Ademco 4204 relais with two wires each while the Hone…

Hi I have a powermax 10 with a GSM link we bought right before Christmas. Up until a couple of months ago, it cannot receive SMS commands any more. At first I thought it was something with teh phone operator, and I have been in contact with them. But now I think it might have to do with the GSM module. I'm not sure. The strange thing is that it will send SMS messages, because I receive status reports and auto test messages and such. And if I arm it manually on the display, I will get an SMS. However if I reply to it and say STATUS and my code, I never get any replies and nothing happens. Please advise. What can I do to trouble shoot it?

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Scantronic 9651EN-41 (9651 c/w 9941) panel from you. Having now installed it I'm surprised that the transformer in the panel has a noticeable hum/buzz. The problem is that the panel is located in the living room rather than out of the way in the attic or similar. It is where it is because I wanted to do a straightforward replacement for a Menvier stand-alone(ie no RKP) panel that had gone on the blink, with minimum re-wiring. Is this hum/buz normal? The Menvier was totally silent.

  17. Hi, I have a problem with a missing cable. It is the cable between the panel and the GPS/GPRS module. It seems impossible to buy the cable in Sweden. So I have purchased components to make my own cable. But when I looked in the (Swedish) instruction manual it looks like the wires are connected cross-over. (see attached files) Can someone please confirm how the wires should be connected? straight (Example 1 in the attached file) or crossed (Example 2 in the attached file)??

Hi, My existing system, which is about 15 years old, has become increasingly unreliable and I am now looking to replace the control panel, PIR's and external sounder. I am content with the current layout (four zones with door/window contacts and PAB's as well as PIR's) and the 6-wire cabling and other hardware is in good order. I would like the option of an auto-dialler to provide keyholder/mobile phone contact. I am considering the following items: Control Panel: ADE Optima Compact Gen4 with Enersys 12v 2.1 A/h Battery PIR: 3 x Scantronic 430 Passive Detector Pet Tolerant Sounder: Ventcroft Compact Classic Sounder c/w Cover A…

Hello SecurityWarehouse I still havent got a bellbox for my system yet (Accenta G4)... I was thinking of getting one that is hardly visible and I wanted quality so I thought of Texecom! I have been looking at their Odyssey's and I think the 4E does just that. On your website, you have the Odyssey 4 and the Odyssey 4E live backplates in either clear or blue. If I was to get a "clear" 4E live backplate will the strobe lens be clear along the outside or blue? Basically the strobe is around the edge of the unit and I would like to know if that wrap around strobe reflector blue or clear? Its just i've seen pictures and some…

Installed a new Galaxy Flex 20 with mk8 keypad and a couple of RF zones. Had some previous issue with the tampers and low battery in a few PIRs but that has been sorted now. I have a new 7.2Ah battery fully charged. Problem is when I set the alarm I get this "ALERT-BATT LOW", ent=CONTINUE SET on the panel, and then after pressing enter "ALERT-FAULT RST" ent=CONTINUE SET. So I can set the system by ignoring these error, but what are these errors coming from and how to get rid of them?

  24. Hi, Forgive me if this is very obvious, but I am new to wired alarms and just want to confirm in case all goes wrong... We purchased the Castle Euro Mini alarm from you recently, we are looking at installing it but had a query, if we want to wire more sensors than we have inputs in the unit, can we wire them in parallel in the same way you would wire the Tamper circuit in double pole wiring? then if so, is there a limit or recommended maximum for sensors and cable lengths etc? Our other question, due to it's position, we purchased a duplicate genuine alarm box (not a dummy). should these be wired in together to the same terminals or is there another way? …

Hi, I am having part of my garage converted into a small room with access only from a outside door. I would like to add this room to my 9448+ by adding a new zone. Can I add a door switch, movement sensor and extra keypad to this system? also I would like to set the alarm for this room at all times even when we are in, however we part set the alarm at night arming the downstairs zones. Would it be possible to part set the alarm and the new zone or will I have to manually omit the upstairs zones at night leaving the downstairs and the new room armed?
