Intruder Alarms

Intruder alarms, programming, design advise, detector selection.

  1. So I am sorry in advance for the many questions, but I would rather ask that mess something up. I have decided to install my own wired alarm at home which is working out cheaper than the wireless options in the shops, I have opted for a Texecom Veritas Excel with LCD keypad, Texecom PIR's, Contacts, ext bell and also a Pyronix twin speaker/internal siren. First question - Should my brand new alarm panel smell (like electrical burny smell) ? Are they tested before being sent out. NO evidence of ever being fitted and no signs of board damage or heat exchange to components. It is brand new .... not refurbed or used. Secondly, I am putting the main control panel …

Our premises has a security system supplied by you (quite a while ago now) and is fitted with a Honeywell AG6 external sounder. I need to disconnect the mains as well as the battery for an extended period and, after putting in the engineer code can remove various items, but when I remove the battery, the AG6 sounder keeps sounding. How do I switch this off?

Enforcer wireless alarm about a year ago which i purchase for you. this has been work fine. until just recently it came up with a battery fault. I have changed all the batteries in the sensors, and done a battery check and signal strength test, and they have shown as ok. the alarm has been working for a week since this, and now has displayed an error again of, unable to set 01 wireless low battery. I have done the battery and signal test again, and has come back as ok.

We are a new organisation in southern Spain, a couple of elderly ex-pats who have become sick of the growing number of burglaries in the area. It is working well as we purchase kits from the internet and we are installing them and then using local labour, responding via GSM and arriving on site within 4-6 minutes. It has proved very successful in its first 3 weeks. However,we have one problem which is causing us grief and we are unable to remedy it. We suffer from frequent power cuts here, sometimes the rapid ones on and off for several minutes, and that can be day or night. As you may imagine, this activates the message to our phones and then re-sets only to go off again…

  5. I purchased a Ventcroft Compact Classic Sounder form you recently. Having fitted it though I cannot get the strobe to operate. Everything else operates as it should. I already retrned on but have the same issue with this one. Its connected to a Veritas Compact 8 panel. I have checked and do get 12volts across STB- and 12v+ hold off. Is there anything particular with this panel that I am unaware of.

  6. Hi, Just wondering if the above is a straight swap, we have found a number of simple GL's on doors that would be somewhat better/safer with contacts, Many thanks, Mark

  7. I've got the issue with ADE Honeywell Easy Set bought from you about 2 years ago. It requires resetting(cutting the power off) at least twice a year. Is it a known issue with these? Basically the keyfobs stop functioning and reset always helps when it happen.

I purchased an alarm system last year, and until today has worked without fault, however, when my Wife tried to set our alarm in the usual way using the ADE Simple Set she was unable to do so. When I came home I also tried without success. The unit shows both Power & Day lights but when either a 'learnt' or an 'unlearnt' fob is offered to the unit there is no response regardless of the length of time the fob is held against the unit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The unit is less than 12 months old

  13. I have a Scantronic I-ON 40 which is installed in a closet upstairs along with the wired keypad which has the LCD display and speaker (the one supplied with the control panel). I also have a i-rk01 wireless keypad downstairs for setting/unsetting the system upon entry/exit. Unfortunately, because the i-rk01 does not have a display or a speaker, it's pretty much useless as you can't hear or see what you're doing from downstairs. I am unable to relocate the wired keypad downstairs as I cannot run a cable, so is there an option to purchase a wireless keypad with a display or speaker? Or is there a separate wireless speaker that I can simply install in the closet downstairs a…

Hi I have a powermax 10 with a GSM link we bought right before Christmas. Up until a couple of months ago, it cannot receive SMS commands any more. At first I thought it was something with teh phone operator, and I have been in contact with them. But now I think it might have to do with the GSM module. I'm not sure. The strange thing is that it will send SMS messages, because I receive status reports and auto test messages and such. And if I arm it manually on the display, I will get an SMS. However if I reply to it and say STATUS and my code, I never get any replies and nothing happens. Please advise. What can I do to trouble shoot it?

I've purchased a replacement LCD keypad for my Accente G4 Mini as the old keypad has a faulty button. I installed the system myself a few years ago so have no issue with the physical wiring etc. I'm just wondering if I will need to re programme the whole system once I change the keypad or are the settings saved in the main panel? I'm just trying to work out if its a 10 minute job or if it will take longer as I will need to re programme the system.

  17. Started by coolcreen,

I have just purchased a Honeywell Accenta Gen4 intruder alarm. While the installation manual is reasonably good, the wiring of the internal sounder is unclear. My old alarm had an internal siren connected in parallel with the strobe light in the external bell box. The internal siren is polarity conscious in that it must be wired up the correct way. No problem so far. I suppose I could connect it in the same was as it was fitted in the previous installation, but it doesn't seem quite right, When I look at the installation, it does not make any reference to an internal siren/sounder, but it does make reference to an extension speaker (16 ohms) that may be connected across…

Hi All, I have just moved into a new (8 year old) house that has a 9651 alarm. I wanted to change some upstairs lights only to find when I turned the lighting circuit off the alarm started sounding. On further inspection, the alarm system shares the same power circuit as the upstairs lighting. I then tried disconnecting the batteries in the alarm control box and that just sent the alarm crazy again. Is there anyway this system can be put into a "engineer mode" ie can I turn the power off without the alarm sounding?. I have tried the alarm installation company but they can't help over the phone (suppose for security reasons) but are wanting silly money to come out? …

  19. I am looking for a engineers and user manual for above panel, can anyone help?

  20. I'm fairly sure I can interface the Reson8 bell box to an old RS alarm Panel I installed many years ago. The panel has (in order) + Hold off, - Hold off, -SW, +SW, -ExB, -ST-, + IntBell, - IntBell, +Buzz, -Buzz, -Tamp(Zone1),+Tamp(Zone1) Basically I cannot see how to connect the Tamper supply- and Tamper return- in the Wiring diagram. I am sticking with the wiring colours. I know it's quite serviceable.

  21. I require a standalone wireless receiver plus 2 IR room sensor to connect to an ADC type panel (wire to existing sensors has been cut by flooring contractor)... The Nova 2 would appear to fit the bill?

tried to install this panel but it keeps blowing the 1.6a battery fuse (i tried 3 times but it blew each time) .I bench tested the panel using mains only and was able to successfully set up and test as per the installation instruction. The Bell, strobe PIRs and LEDs worked fine but each time i connected the battery it blew the fuse. I have checked the wiring instructions and cannot see any obvious reason for the problem.Your assistance will be greatly appreciated

  23. I am interested in purchasing the Honeywell galaxy flex FX020 with a Mk7 keypad but have a few questions first. 1. Is the Honeywell reson8 bell box compatible with the above panel? 2. Is the Honeywell AG3 bell box compatible with the above panel? 3. Does the alarm panel come with the 680 ohm resistors for EOL wiring to the keypads? 4. Does the alarm panel come with the 1k and 2k resistors for double balanced wiring to the PIRs? 5. Does the rio zone expander come with the necessary resistors like the main panel for the additional zones? 6. Does the rio zone expander get its power from the main panel? 7. Can both the gsm/GPRS module and the Ethernet module both fi…
