hi i bought a dsc power832 alarm off of ebay about 3 years ago and have just got around to fitting it and realised that the installer code i was given is wrong. it's badged as british gas and apparently they had them made with there own defualt engineer codes. anyway i want to use as much of this old alarm as possible before i scrap it and so i was going to buy the ADE Accenta Mini Gen4 with LCD Keypad that you have for sale. my question is will the dsc pir's work with this ok? (i'm assuming yes) and also i see that it requires a 2.1ah 12v battery. my old alarm has a 12v 7.0ah battery so the voltage is the same. but by the looks of pictures they seem to be a diffe…

Hi, Perhaps I could ask your advice as to what alarm system I should install. Firstly I should point out that I am a chartered instrumentation engineer so am used to dealing with complex wired and programmable systems - provided that the appropriate instructions are available to me. I have a three bed property which is in a rural location. The village that I live in has been subject to a recent spate of breakins and alarm systems are springing up all over. My priorities are 1) To discourage a burgalr to even attempting a breakin. 2) Should he attempt a breakin to alarm at the earliest possible opportunity preferably before he has actualy gained access. I …

Hi I am considering helping a friend upgrade his old system which I believe is a Menvier TS700. Under consideration is a Scantronic 9752 from yourselves which I see comes complete with a keypad and is attractive because it comes with the option for wireless expansion. First question: are there any alternatives you might suggest against this choice and Secondly: Please could you point me to a copy of the installation/programming manual for the 9752 so I can have a preliminary read through. Kind regards and thanks Steve

Have Risco removed the ability to show the status on the LCD keypad? I've made sure that the Keypad is installed onto the system, but when I go into the Programming Custom Screens menu, It shows LCD Status = None. When I say NO, it just moves on to LED Status, and doesn't give me the option to change the setting to Full (for status always on) or Set/Unset which it always used to!! Is there another setting I need to alter first before I'm allowed to change the "display the status" setting?? Any help appreciated

if you tech guys could answer this question for me it would be good. i have a customer who wants a small intruder alarm system in his outbuilding, im looking at using the scantronic 9651 en. what the customer does want tho is a chime function on an external detector (so he knows when someone is approaching when he is in the back room) this detector does not want to be on the alarm system when set. can it be programed as not used but still with a chime? or am i going to have to put a smaller panel up to (scanny 9488) just to use the chime function and to keep it seperate from the intruder alarm? hope this makes sense ... and i hope you can help. regards ..H

Can anyone recommend a simple wired alarm system with support for maybe 2 door contacts, and 4-6 PIR's. I'd like one with GSM support to SMS me when an alarm event is triggered. Any other fancy features like internet monitoring would be nice, but not necessary. This will be for domestic use - and only used very occasionally i.e. - when on holiday. No pets in the house. Thanks,

When fitting a Scantronic 9651 panel recently I noticed it had a rechargeable battery soldered onto the PCB. I guess this is to maintain settings it case of total power failure/disconnection. Does this have a design life of 5 years like most other re-chargeables?? If so it doesn't look like it was designed to be easily replaced. And how would you know it needed replacing anyway - until it's too late? Phil.

Hi I'm looking for a wireless intruder alarm for a one floor house. It has to include - 6 wireless PIR detectors - 1 wireless external sounder - GSM/GPRS notification capability. Right now i'm investigating the rokonet wisdom and the visonic powermax. Questions 1- Which one do you think would be the most suitable system? You can refer other systems 2- I didn't find any GSM/GPRS adaptor for the rokonet wisdom in your site. The Wisdom panel refers the capability, is it already included? If not which module should be used? Thanks Nuno

The sounder on the control panel works correctly but the remote keypad emits no sound at all when being used to set the system. Is it a setting problem, a wiring problem or a defective remote keypad?

I am looking to find the best option for a complex installation. Any expert recommandation on any of the following issues would be very helpfull and highly rewarded! - the system should accomodate wireless outdoor detectors incl. cameras for video/or image transmission to a surveillance company. - the system should be able to accomodate both wireless and wired connections with about 30 wireless units to be connected and be secured against external perturbation and shall be able to trigger a silent alarm in case of outdoor detection (incl. video or transmission to the surveillance company) and a normal alarm in case of indoor intrusion detection (also with indoor vide…

Hi, My existing system, which is about 15 years old, has become increasingly unreliable and I am now looking to replace the control panel, PIR's and external sounder. I am content with the current layout (four zones with door/window contacts and PAB's as well as PIR's) and the 6-wire cabling and other hardware is in good order. I would like the option of an auto-dialler to provide keyholder/mobile phone contact. I am considering the following items: Control Panel: ADE Optima Compact Gen4 with Enersys 12v 2.1 A/h Battery PIR: 3 x Scantronic 430 Passive Detector Pet Tolerant Sounder: Ventcroft Compact Classic Sounder c/w Cover A…

I was thinking of getting a wireless alarm like powermax with a GSM backup (think it is a good feature to get events sent by sms when kids come home from school and so on). Main reason to have a wireless is that it is easy to install. I have a house with 5 rooms on the groundfloor. There are 11 windows and 4 doors. The thing is that I have a dog and a cat. Weight of the dog is 33kg. So the questions are. 1. Are the pet IR detectors reliable? They say up to 38 kg so is should be ok, but want to avoid false alarms. 2. If I want protect all windows, what would be the best method. Switches and vibrations sensors on all? It will be rather expensive... 3. I've r…

Hi, Need confirmation that the set-up I have listed will all work together, we are ex.UK but now live in Crete where we have built a house without, regretably it now turns out, a hard wired alarm capability. Crete, once relatively crime free, has now gone bad ways and recently our neighbours were robbed and they had 6 dogs loose in the garden! So I am looking to buy and install a wireless system sourced from the UK and need clarification it will all work and is foolproof for even me to fit ! Basic I-ON16 with two PIR's, two remotes, two master blasters. Owing to our secluded position we need to make life miserable enough for the intruder to leave sooner rather t…

(Apologies to those who have seen this post already. I realised that I had posed it on the wrong board.) Hi, I'm looking to purchase an alarm system. Currently my short list of panels are:- Texecom VERITAS EXCEL ADE Accenta Mini Gen4 Scantronic 9651 I was hedging on towards the 9651 until I read about a 'engineer code guard feature' that doesn't seem to work. Here is the link where I stumbled across this issue. Sorry it's a bit long, but towards the end of the page they say that it is a software problem although not openly admitted by the manufacturer. http://www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk/community/lofiversion/index.php?t24279-0.html I suppose on…

Hi, i need help deciding between a PowerMax + (Visonic) or the Scantronic 9751-EN-00 55K for a 5 bedroom house. I need a 5 PIR, 8-10 shock sensors and 1 door contact with a wired outside bell, with a dial out facility. I also want to be able to hardwire the system to the garage later on. If not is there a better system that you could recommend? Any help would be greatly appreciated Many thanks, Surinder J

Is it possible for the main board to become wiped?? The alarm has been installed and was working fine for 2 years until a kitchen refit company decided to cut through three of the cables. (the cable between the control unit and the key pad was NOT cut) I've reconnected the cut cables, and initially the display read "Fuse/Bat Fault" - sure enough the Aux1 fuse had blown so I've replaced this. Now the remote keypad will light up when you power on, but there is no text on the display. I've checked the 3 fuses again, and that there is power to the PCB (17v) and that the power is reaching the keypad (12v) Any ideas on what else to try?? Could a wiring …

I am currently installing an alarm/fire system in my home and have a few questions someone may kindly answer: 1. Does the Eurosec CPX have a built in dialer to call in the event of an alarm (so all I do is add a bt line) and if so does it tell you what the alarm is i.e zone, fire, intruder etc. 2. What type of cable should I use for the smoke heat detecors - normal alarm cable? 3. What smoke heat detecors are compatable with the Eurosec CPX? 4. The alarm unit will be mounted in a seperate room only accesable from outside (it's a outside utility room) although the utility room is secure would it be better to have the main unit within the house? 5. Finally, can you …
