Intruder alarms, programming, design advise, detector selection.

  1. Started by Secware_Tech6,

When designing an intruder alarm systems some basic information needs to be gathered. Apart from the specialist regulations (BS 4737 has been withdrawn) of BS EN 50131, PD6662, DD243 etc, BS 7671 and Part P is still relevant for cable sizing, methods of fixing recording voltages etc. But lets start with some basics 1, Domestic Installations Probably one of the most common systems. This would usually be a Grade 1 or 2x (both audible only). A risk assessment must be carried out and this will decide grade. Also the insurance company may have some input on a minimum grade they will accept. Look for things like easy access points, flat roofs, weak doors etc. These area…

  3. I need to replace a PIR motion detector for my home alarm system. The sensor that needs replaced has 7 terminals at the top of the circuit board. They are: 12v power +/-, Alarm NC x2, Test x1, Tamper NC x2. Do you sell a detector with the same connections? I tried a Pyronix MeQBlue but it only has 6 terminals (no Test terminal) and also the terminals are at the bottom of the board and not the top ( the cable length and positioning are quite limited). Thanks for your help!

  4. I'm setting up sensitive material outside my organization in a UK military environment in Portsmouth and we need a small alarm system with the following features : - small factor - covering a 20sqm room - ability to set it up ourselves. - volumetric detection - door opening detection - no wifi - alarm reporting via Internet app, over wired Ethernet - optional : alarm reporting through 4G/5G internet that can be deactivated or disabled. - optional : notice upon power loss or notice upon switching to UPS. - ability to deliver the system rapidly within a few days. I was thinking about something along the Honeywell Galaxy Flex range but other options would be acceptable…

We would like to buy an Optex motion detector with Ajax transmitter. Can you tell me which Optex motion detector is compatible with the Ajax transmitter please? WXI-R or WXI-RAM. Also if we were to buyan Optex detector with a different transmitter, could this transmitter be removed and we use the Ajax transmitter?

  10. I see there are several versions of the ethernet module floating about for the Honeywell panels. I have a Flex FX020 panel and the product code I can see inside the panel is C003-M-E2 v1.15 I simply want to use the GX app on my Android phone to be able to set, unset and reset the alarm remotely and also be able to enter the Engineer menus (I hold the engineer code as well as one of the user codes) IN a related question am I right in thinking that the wired RIO when used on a FX 020 has to use code 2 on the RS485 bus, my 1st and 2nd keypads currently use code 0 and 1 respectively. I should thus be able to add a 3rd keypad set to code 3? The code table in the installatio…

  14. A bit of a long reach this one, but I'm trying to 'emulate' a keypad for a Scantronic 8136 panel. I've got as far as identifying it using a 150bit protocol of what seems to be long and short pulses on the signal wire done through releasing the signal wire from ground and letting the panel pull it back up to +14v for a period of time 150 times synchronised by a clock. I'm hoping to build on this so that I can control my antique alarm system from my phone! Anyone have any further information on how this works, as my attempts to play back the pulses (I think) I've copied are ignored by the panel, so I'm missing something!

  15. Hello I'm hoping for some advice if the following is possible and if so, which products are suitable. I have an old Optima XM system with hardwired contacts for the Front Door Zone. I am trying to understand if there is a suitable product that allows me to change the hardwired door contact to a wireless battery operated contact. Is there a wireless converter I can instal next to the control box that can take the wireless signal from the contact and convert to a hardwired connection between the wireless converter and the relevant zone contacts in the Optima controller. If so, are there any suggestions of products for the converter and/or door contact. Thanks for any advi…

  17. Hi All We have an old ADT Accord XPC home alarm system that's been excellent. Recently we've had the alarm go off around half an house after leaving the house, then it resets itself. I've done some tests and have come to the conclusion that the problem is with our front door Reed Switch sensor. My issue is tyring to identify the door sensor I need to order - as you can see by the photos, I've taken it apart and mine has two additional resistors. Every one I've ordered so far doesn't have these resistors and wont work with my alarm system. Any help in identifying this door sensor and the replacement I need would be much appreciated. Thanks

It is linked to 3x wired PIRs and 3x wired door switches and I would like the replacement to have remote access via wi-fi link to my local router and suitable app. Can you suggest replacement that is not too complicated or expensive? Thanks David
