Intruder Alarms

Intruder alarms, programming, design advise, detector selection.

  1. Started by dma1jdl,

Hi, Can you advise on a simple and robust wired alarm for a cold and damp Scout hut. I will be installing it myself but I don't expect major problems with that side of things... We need: 5 PIRS 1 key pad 3 door detectors 2 external bells (preferably) 1 dummy box 1 internal sounder and about 200m of cable No need for distinct key codes or anything like that. Thanks

  2. Started by Secware,

bought a complete system buy you. Now I have a configuration issue. The alarm triggers directly when I enter, now entry delay is active. I have chosen 1. Exit/entry delay 1 for door contact and 3. home e/e for motion sensor in hallway. Is this correct? I want to be able to have Home zone active without triggering the alarm (except when door is opened). Should I choose antoher zone type for motion sensor in hallway?

  3. My keypad has given up the ghost with some butons not working so I cannot disable the alarm with the code. I've taken off the keypad and it has 4 wires connected. It looks very simple to replace so is it simply a case of buying a replacement and installing in the same manner? When I reconnect the power and the alarm starts going, I should be able to enter my code and all is back to normal? Or is it more complicated than that? I've been quoted for a replacment & fitting but it seems such a simple job to do yourself. Do I need to be aware of anything else?

  5. Started by Secware2,

I am replacing an old system which is armed on exit using a shunt lock, I require a similar wired system. As we have a number of keyholders we prefer the final lock to arm / disarm the system in preference to a keycode

  6. I'm looking for an external siren and/or strobe light compatible with the Scantronic 500r+ alarm. Do you have such products?

  7. Hi I am after a hardwired alarm system, there will be 11 PIR's 2 keypads 4 panic buttons and 2 sounders. Can you provide a quote please and I will place an order, thanks.

  8. Hi, I am thinking about buying a Le Sucre alarm system. I am discouraged to buy a professionally installed system because of the high maintenance charges. Is the installation of the Le Sucre system straightforward enough for a member of the public to install? I have some technical knowledge so it would help if you could highlight any specific challenges. Many thanks.

  9. I have a powermaster30 and would like to use the special features ,"Look after People at home" as described in the manual. in Devices configuraion of my PIR i have set the "DISARM ACTIVITY - YES, No delay" but does not receive any information if i stop moving. 12. Started by Secware,

Hi in looking for an intruder alarm system, I want to install it across a 30 meter doorway in a shed on a farm. I think a break beam system would be the most appropriate system. The doorways are unsecured in any other way, there is no door to close across the opening. I would need an alarm that could be heard up,to 750 meters away Thansk

  13. Please can you tell me if Optex FX50QZL PASSIVE DETECTOR is a dual technology PIR sensor?

  14. I am looking to upgrade the security at one of our premises using a Net enabled alarm and CCTV system I note one option is the new Honeywell alarm system in the Galaxy range , assuming you cover it, could you pl update the costs for the model called Galaxy Flex. Also wanted to know if you have option to connect outdoor IR Sensor at the perimeter, to these alarm system. My local engineer told me that I-on 40 that you offer can be connected to these systems, eg BX-80N or NR model from OPTEX. Can this also be connected to galaxy model eg dimension flex etc

  16. Started by Secware,

I read that Axis 1031w surveillance camera was supported by the powermax alarm. How many cameras are supported? If I connect a camera to the powermaster alarm, can I also connect it to my synology NAS?

  17. I am looking too install a wired alarm system into a large powered garage and would like a recommendation on which of your products would be most suitable. Ideally I would like the control unit (with battery backup) separate to a keypad (or fob reader) so that it can be installed out of harms way. If possible, I would also like an external siren with strobe. For the sensors I think 2 PIRs would suffice however, these need to avoid false alarms so perhaps dual sensing ones would be better for me. The PIRs need to be able to cope with more extreme temperatures than inside a house, a hot motor vehicle being parked in front of them and probably the odd spider or two. Please…

  18. Started by secware3,

  20. Hi I am adding a Honeywell 12v latching base to an Accenta Mini Gen4. How do I wire the N/O N/C and C terminals on the base for a Honeywell Combination Optical/ Thermal Smoke Detector?

  21. I am replacing my old alarm system. I have done some research and it appears Scantronic are a good make in terms of functionality and reliability and come recomended from a colleague who has installed them previously. I have a wired sounder at present and want to maintain the wired asoect if possible. I'm looking at: i-on16 Control Panel (1) 714 Wireless PIR (6) Wireless door contacts - brown (2) Compatible wired sounder or the wireless one for i-on16 Please advise if the above are all compatable and what is my best option for a sounder. Also would the wireless PIR work in my detached garage? It's approximately10 metres from the control panel location.

  22. Hi, Looking for a panel that can control a relay whereby when the alarm is set, e.g. when leaving the building, a signal is sent from the panel to a relay. This signal causes the relay to switch and so makes another device active. The signal stays continuous whilst the panel is set. Conversly, when the panel is un-set, the signal is withdrawn and so the relay becomes inactive. Looking for a low cost compact wired model preferrably. Which model do you recommend? Thanks

  25. We moved into our house previously without pets but with one of the above alarm panels. I need to replace three PIR with pet friendly ones. You advertise the Scantronic 430, is this compatible with the 9450 panel. Also I wanted to install a dialler but it seems that you are out of stock of all diallers. If there is one that is compatible with my control panel could you please let me know. Also I would like a clue as to how to wire up the dialler to my panel. Please feel free to answer any one of the points. The main one being compatibility.
