I am a building contractor with a number of sites in operation. I am interested in the GJD GSM Autodialler or Pyronix V2 GSM. Can these products be used as standalone alarm units. Can PIRs be connected directly to this unit or do I have to integrate this with an alarm control panel?

You would need to connect a dialler to an alarm system. The dialler is used to alert a key holder of an alarm condition via the phone line

You could connect direct to the dialler with a pir etc but you would have no means to arm / disarm it unless you used a keyswitch.

As you need a power supply to run the dialler, by the time you have purchased a psu, a keyswitch, relay etc you would have been better off buying an optima compact or an accenta
