Alarm upgrade question

Featured Replies

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my home alarm system and after reviewing your forum have a few questions that I hope you can help me with so that I order to correct system (and compatible components).  Essentially, I have a new build with the developer fitted DCS Alarm branded as British Gas which seems to not meet any of my requirements.  Basically I am hoping to upgrade this to something more usable and compatible with pets i.e. something that I can adjust zones (regions) as I see fit as the dog is quite large.

I have contacted 3 of the larger installers in my area and given that two never kept their appointment and the other quoted just under

Id agree with your panel choice but the 2-20 will do sms messaging over its modem, but the g2-44 will also accept a gsm card. This is only usually used where a phone line is not available. But both panels can send sms messaging and digital signalling using its digi modem.

I wouldnt buy the 2-20 kit but you could add a wireless portal to a 2-20.

ie

This is the 2-20 panel that comes with a built in proximity reader in the keypad

Then you can add wireless detectors etc as required.

With the galaxy 2 series once you add an rf portal you can use all 20 circuits as wireless. There are 12 circuits onboard the panel. If you use say 8 of the on board circuits that allows 12 wireless etc etc.

Thanks so much for your reply.

Few quick questions if I may, I do not really want to use a landline but rather a mobile sim card so I assume that would limit me to the 2-44?

Can you recommend the best 2-44 kit for my needs (is there one with the wireless receiver and proximity sensor included?) So far I have found the following combination:

Kit: http://www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1376

Wifi Receiver: http://www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1385

Door sensors: http://www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36_60&products_id=725[/url]

One other option I did stumble across was the following kit as it appeared to already have the ability to take a gsm sim card unless I read it incorrectly: http://www.securitywarehouse.co.uk/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2065

Many thanks.
