So I am sorry in advance for the many questions, but I would rather ask that mess something up.

I have decided to install my own wired alarm at home which is working out cheaper than the wireless options in the shops,

I have opted for a Texecom Veritas Excel with LCD keypad, Texecom PIR's, Contacts, ext bell and also a Pyronix twin speaker/internal siren.

First question - Should my brand new alarm panel smell (like electrical burny smell) ? Are they tested before being sent out. NO evidence of ever being fitted and no signs of board damage or heat exchange to components. It is brand new .... not refurbed or used.

Secondly, I am putting the main control panel inside an old disused airing cupboard. I have done this because (a) I have very easy routes for the cables to where I want devices and ( b ) There is still the original fused spur outlet which used to feed the old immersion heater. This supply is completely separate from everything else in the house. I just need to change the trip rating on the consumer board and change the front panel to a non switched fused type. My install book is telling me to use minimum 0.75mm cable so I have purchased 1.5mm just to be safe. Is the standard white round pvc 16a cable Ok to use and more importantly where do I connect the earth to at the box as the terminal block supplied has an earth but nothing going to the little transformer. (UK wiring btw).

Front door - If I use a PIR instead of door contacts, and I place it above the door facing into the house am I likely to have issues with post and newspapers triggering false alarms? Will placing it higher or lower make any difference. The reason I ask is I live near a military firing range where they often test bombs and it shakes the windows etc. My old system to to activate on Z1 which was the front door circuit on a contactor. Or any other ideas advice before I start running the wires (doing install in a couple of weeks).

Last two questions (I heard that sigh of relief LOL)

Conduit or chase walls for alarm cable?

And can anybody point be to the idiots guide to EOL. I am an electric/hydraulic engineer so understand low voltage electrics but have never come across EOL before. From what I understand I have two wiring options - Series link everything into tamper circuit or use EOL. I really need help with this. What does it do, benefits, options etc.

Many many thanks in advance :-)

No im wondering if you have overloaded your panel. SW products are professional products they are not designed for DIY installation and we cannot support DIY users.

NO ..... Was delivered yesterday and only got it out of box today. Sorry but not purchased from SW (this was only forum I could find to ask for help).

I have already ordered one locally from CEF only to go and get it and find it damaged in box so didn't buy it. Found another online.

It smells a bit iffy straight out of box. Bit like an amplifier when it gets very hot
