  1. The EN version of the 9651 has a User Command 3, which enables the user to toggle between requiring user code before installer code or not. It turns out that this had been enabled inadvertently - having put the user code in the other day to activate the alarm rather than pressing the tick someone (who shall be nameless but she lives here!!) pressed the '3' next to it by mistake. Hence I couldn't get into the Engineer mode! Problem solved - now I can look at the PA - the original problem. Thanks for your help.
  2. It looks like a straightforward job to replace the transformer. This would be my preferred route rather than disconnecting everything to send the whole box back - that's quite a big job & leaves me without an intruder alarm for days.
  3. Yes, That's how I measured the 163mA. current draw.
  4. Ok, now understand that the fuse wouldn't blow as they can take up to 10x rated current. I've now measured the current drawn at 163mA.
  5. Also, forgot to mention - I measured the transformer output at 18.3v
  6. ok, I'm pretty sure it's the transformer. If it was overloaded surely the 250mA fuse would blow??
  7. I'm only using 3 zones, all with PIR's plus the bell box so it can't be overloaded, the case vibration stops when the front cover is screwed on. Also, putting a finger on the transformer you can feel the vibes. Phil.
  8. Ok, thanks for the advice. The rubber washers were my next job - I've already tried the other things, in fact the buzz reduces with the cover on as it holds the metal sides tight, without the cover you can actually feel the sides vibrating. Believe me my hearing is not that sensitive - the buzz is loud!! i'll let you know how I get on.
  9. A couple of weeks ago I bought a Scantronic 9651EN-41 (9651 c/w 9941) panel from you. Having now installed it I'm surprised that the transformer in the panel has a noticeable hum/buzz. The problem is that the panel is located in the living room rather than out of the way in the attic or similar. It is where it is because I wanted to do a straightforward replacement for a Menvier stand-alone(ie no RKP) panel that had gone on the blink, with minimum re-wiring. Is this hum/buz normal? The Menvier was totally silent.
  10. When fitting a Scantronic 9651 panel recently I noticed it had a rechargeable battery soldered onto the PCB. I guess this is to maintain settings it case of total power failure/disconnection. Does this have a design life of 5 years like most other re-chargeables?? If so it doesn't look like it was designed to be easily replaced. And how would you know it needed replacing anyway - until it's too late? Phil.
  11. "if you dont disable high security engineer access then its not a problem as the engineer code wont work without a valid user code either set or unset. Its a good idea not to disable this feature anyway. My reasoning for honeywell or texecom for most jobs is because they are easier to work on. The texecom manuals are the best out there." Many thanks - a further hour or two with the manual and I now understand!! Yes, the Scantronic manual at 84 pages is a bit daunting!! It doesn't help when they refer to the 'installer' and the 'engineer' as though these have different user profiles when in fact it seems they are one & the same! I've been through the manual and, interestingly, find that although the index lists ''Guard Code" as being on page 40, page 40 makes no mention of it. Page 40 does detail the procedure for changing the engineer code, programming command 20, and this is something I would expect installers would normally do. Only on reading the User Guide did I find any mention of having to input the User Code prior to inputting the engineer code - Special functions, Option 3. - but no mention of Factory default condition!! Not helpful.
  12. Hello, I've just bought a Scantronic 9651EN-41 (9651 c/w 9941 rkp) from you and this thread has me worried a bit. You recommend a Honeywell for non EN jobs - what's an EN job?? Has the software issue been resolved? Do I need to worry about it anyway? I haven't yet fitted it - it is to replace a 10 yr old Menvier TSD 402 that has gone on the blink but I notice the wiring of PIRs etc isn't like it used to be - I guess with the advent of microprocessors the flexible programming of zones is easier rather than defining specific PA, Entry/exit etc. connections.
