[Ticket Question] Gjd Opal Rfx System Installation

Recommended Posts

GJD Opal RFX system - RFX-3 receiver (GJD018) and three Opal RFX wireless external PIR detectors (GJD017).

only attempted installation last few days now that CCTV is installed on the site in question.

All the GJD RFX kit powers up OK.

The three detectors were each paired with a receiver channel successfully. After pairing, all three indicators (RF1/2/3) on the receiver pulse every 5 seconds.

The detectors seem to be operating OK, and when placed in 'walk test' mode the local LED indicator on each detector flashes appropriately.

The problem is that even though the detectors seem to be detecting, there is no resultant indication at the receiver, despite the RF link being up.

Have tested this with both the CCTV outputs (which is the primary purpose) and also the 'A' outputs.

Have tried the following:
* un-pairing & re-pairing
* clearing all pairing and pairing different detectors with different slots on the receiver
* defaulting the parameters on each detector back to the factor settings
* extending the CCTV delay to many seconds
* setting the pulse count to just one and sensitivity to the max range
* changing the 'S' output lux level
* tried other new detector batteries etc.
* have taken them to an "RF-quiet" location to rule-out interference
none of which gave any indication of detection at the receiver.

Have tested with both meter and scope, with CCTV contacts configured as N/O and N/C, and no detections being reported. Also, as per item (11) on page 2 of the instruction leaflet, we think each channel's detection indicator should illuminate for the duration of the detectors' CCTV timer - they never illuminate.

Its almost as if the RF receiver, and the logic controller, aren't talking to each other properly....

We have also tested with everything running from batteries to rule out any mains-borne interference, ripple etc.; and the set (receivers and batteries) have been taken out, battery-powered, into a field 150+ metres from any other electrical equipment, no mobile phones, etc. – still exactly the same.

The fact that all three of the receiver's RF1/2/3 indicators flash at exactly the same time makes us think that this flashing may be receiver-generated rather than reception of genuine transmissions, as think it unlikely the three detectors would transmit perfectly in sync.

After re-pairing yet again, each channel's RF indicator still flashes every 5 secs - BUT after removing the detector's batteries, the RF indicator STILL flashes every 5 seconds - so it looks like the flashing of the RF indicator is because it isn't receiving any of the detectors. As its the same for all three detectors, the chances of all three being equally faulty or off-frequency is probably low (unless they were from a faulty batch) so I think that may point the finger more towards the receiver not operating.

Purpose for the report is that, as a system, its absolutely not working.

Unfortunately its not obvious from the above when your operator kindly transferred this from a support ticket (983736) to the forum, but we submitted a support ticket and then a follow-up.

In the first ticket, we said we thought that the fact that the three RF indicators were flashing meant that an RF signal was being received; however in the follow-up ticket (the last three paragraphs) we had identified (especially the very last paragraph) that understanding was wrong and that it looked more like the RF reception isn't right.

To summarise, we believe the detectors are at least detecting, but there's no alarm detection shown from the RFX-3 receiver.  The general receiver 'traffic' LED (with the antenna icon in the PCB screen print) does flicker, even in an RF-quiet environment; and we now understand the that the flashing of the three LEDs RF1/2/3 is indicating loss-of-signal rather than reception.

“The three detectors were each paired with a receiver channel successfully. After pairing, all three indicators (RF1/2/3) on the receiver pulse every 5 seconds.”

Press the channel button on the receiver. If a detector is learnt onto the channel, you will get three beeps. If you get a single beep, there is no detector learnt. Use this to check if something is learnt.

“The problem is that even though the detectors seem to be detecting, there is no resultant indication at the receiver, despite the RF link being up.”

The LED next to the channel button will flash on detection. If the detector is learnt, bring the detector to the receiver and wave your hand in front of it. See if the brings on the LED on the channel.

“Have tested this with both the CCTV outputs (which is the primary purpose) and also the 'A' outputs.”

When testing the relay, there is a small resistor going across it. Don’t use continuity test as this doesn’t always work because of the resistance. Use resistance to check if the relays contacts are functioning on detection.

“we think each channel's detection indicator should illuminate for the duration of the detectors' CCTV timer - they never illuminate.”

May indicate that the detector isn’t learnt.

Another thing you can try is as follows. Make sure one of your channels is blank. Default one of the detectors (remove one battery, hold down the programming button, put the battery back on while holding the button down, keep it held down for 10seconds). Then  press the programming button nine times, and hold it down on the ninth for about 15seconds. Relearn the detector onto the blank channel, then give at a test.

Have done this already, detectors pair successfully (3 beeps). Have tried un-pairing (long press per last para on p3 of manual) and then just get a single beep; re-pair and get three beeps again when checked.

As we said in the original ticket, there is never any flash from the channel LED (other than when pairing)

As per ticket we've tested with meter (ohms) and scope, not just continuity tester. No indication on either the CCTV outputs or the 'A' outputs.

They are definitely learnt (as above). Warble on first pairing, thren three beeps. Un-paired chanell = "Loss of RF" 1/2/3 never illuminated.  Paired channel, "Loss of RF" 1,2 or 3 as appropriate flashes every 5 seconds.

As per ticket, we have already defaulted the detectors as per the instructions in the table at the top of page 4 of the manual and on the A4 replacement sheet, both of which say to press 7 times. We have done this, and the parameters do seem to reset (range, CCTV duration etc. go back to the default values shown in those tables). Have also generated a new random code (9 presses + hold), cleared a channel and re-paired, no improvement.

Have re-set  as per your battery-out method & generated new code & re-paired onto empty channel - no change at all.

The RF continuity test (8 presses + hold) never shows any indication on the receiver.

We really think there's a duff receiver.....

Please raise a ticket requesting an RMA, so we can get this collected and replaced for you and correct the situtaion. I would advise that GJD are exrtremely helpful to intallers, if you want to try talking to them before going to the trouble of removing the item.

How ever if it is faulty we will get the goods replaced for you.  GJD equipment is very reliable, and we get seldom get faulty items back, but even the best can go wrong sometimes, sorry for the inconvenience to you and your customer
